Curriculum Vitae
Ulrike Garscha studied Pharmacy and got her pharmacist's license from the Martin-Luther University of Halle/S. in 2002. After gaining experience working as a pharmacist in a public pharmacy, she went on to the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at the University of Uppsala in Sweden where she received her Ph.D. in 2009. Her main area of work was fungal oxylipin biosynthesis, molecular biology, protein expression systems, and mass spectrometry. In 2010, she started her Postdoc work in the lab of Prof. Oliver Werz in Jena (Germany), where she focused on pro- and anti-inflammatory lipid mediator biosynthesis in human immune cells upon host-pathogen interaction. In 2019 she gained her professorship at the Institute of Pharmacy in Greifswald, where she is interested in understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms that are involved in lipid mediator formation upon pathogen attack on the one hand, but also in oxylipin biosynthesis by the pathogen itself. She hopes her work and insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms will open new avenues to find novel drugs that modulate inflammatory processes.
