Detection principle
The detection of nucleic acids (Fig. 4) or proteins (Fig. 5) is in both chip formats achieved by a labelled detection molecule that also binds to the analyte, allowing for binding of a reporter enzyme. The enzyme generates an electrochemically active product that is measured via “redox-recycling” at the electrodes which leads to an electrical signal that corresponds to the amount of detected analyte (Fig. 6).
